About the Artist

my-pics-1Thank you for visiting Delicate Leaf Photography!

(葉茜) Maggie Eckerson graduated Magna Cum Laude from Ithaca College in 2018, where she earned her Bachelor’s in Cinema/Photography and Environmental Science. For her first job after college, she scored an invitation to the 2019 Cannes Film Festival in France!

A versatile professional with multilingual capacity as well as a diverse cultural knowledge, she expanded career paths and joined the Peace Corps, where she served as an Environmental Health Educator in Belize. There she developed an interest in analyzing and documenting relations between environmental justice and racial disparities within the Q’eqchi Mayan village where she lived. After her service was interrupted at the height of the COVID pandemic, Maggie was swiftly recruited by the domestic equivalent: AmeriCorps, where she gained experience as an Emergency Responder.

Based on the leadership skills and initiative she demonstrated, she was awarded two United States Presidential Volunteer Service Awards and the United States President’s Lifetime Achievement Award in a White House ceremony hosted by President Biden.

Artist Statement

As an environmentalist, my goal is to explore and understand the wonderful complexities of the planet. As an artist, my goal is to visually capture the essence of the environment, to reveal hidden qualities of character and to better understand the world around us. A diversity of environmental portraits form a portfolio designed to provoke questions concerning identity, preservation and respect. I hope my photographs inspire you to learn more about the cultures and environments exhibited today!
