The earliest Maya began as farmers, growing crops such as corn, beans, squash and cassava, a tradition which continues today. In Central America, around 5 million people speak 70 Maya languages. The Maya are known for their resourcefulness including using limestone for tools and weapons. The environment also held other cultural treasures for the Maya, including jade and quetzal feathers. I present the Q’eqchi Maya.
